Responding to the launch of the government’s Warm Homes Plan, UKSIF CEO James Alexander said:

“The release of the Warm Homes Plan highlights the importance of tackling the long-standing issues facing the UK’s ageing housing stock.

“Strong, consistent policy is needed to create the right environment for private capital, so we can address the long-term financial risks and high energy costs affecting millions of cold, deteriorating properties across the country.

“The right skills will need to be in place across supply chains to deliver retrofits rapidly at scale, alongside ongoing reforms of electricity pricing so technologies like heat pumps remain as affordable as possible.

“But a well-implemented strategy that raises the carbon-efficiency and quality of UK housing can attract billions in private investment, support thousands of skilled jobs and contribute to wider economic growth.”
