STATEMENT: Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Comments on Clean Energy

Responding to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s address to the nation today (April 1), where he showed unequivocal support for investment in clean energy, UKSIF CEO James Alexander said:

“The Prime Minister is absolutely right to recognise that investment in clean energy is critical to insulating the UK from fossil fuel-driven economic shocks.

“The oil and gas market’s renewed volatility is a sign of the strategic risks that come from dependence on these resources, not a case for drilling more.

“It’s now vital that ministers continue to strengthen policies that can attract even more financing into our fast-scaling renewable energy sectors.

“These industries have the power to drive growth and create jobs throughout the country.”
