Description

About me: As founder, director and principal adviser, I have some 35 years’ experience in financial services and became an adviser in 1992. With a degree in Law and Sociology from Exeter University, I have completed the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Advanced Financial Planning qualification and am a member by Diploma of the Personal Finance Society.

And about my company: I established Philip James Independent Financial Advice (James is my middle name) in 2000. We have have been directly authorised with the Financial Conduct Authority since 2011, which means we’re completely independent and not part of a network or tied to any other big company.

We offer straightforward investment and pensions advice. We provide a very personal service, supported by award-winning, leading-edge technology. We now have £150m under advice and look after 400 clients. We are proud to be members of the the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association.

Approach

As members of the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association, we can help you to invest responsibly without reducing or compromising your potential returns. It may be that you’re concerned about and make efforts to care for our environment. Or that you want to ensure that your investments won’t support, for instance, tobacco or armaments companies. We believe that companies who manage their businesses responsibly will have the best chance of long-term growth and better share price performance in the future. And with a growing choice of ethical investment funds and changing corporate attitudes, there’s little need to compromise principles for investment performance. But making the right choice has become increasingly complex. Positive screening looks for companies with a commitment to responsible practices, offering products and services that have a positive impact on the environment. Negative screening avoids businesses that don’t meet certain ethical standards, for example, not investing in tobacco or defense companies. Others seek companies specialising in renewable energy and sustainable technologies or support charities and other socially responsible institutions.
