Beyond Compliance: Investor Engagement on Modern Slavery

02/02/2021 2:00PM

We are partnering with CCLA for the first of our webinar series on the following topic: ''Beyond Compliance: Investor Engagement on Modern Slavery'' on the 2nd of February, 11am.

In August 2020 CCLA Investment Management brought together a coalition of investors concerned about reports of the exploitation of migrant labourers in the UAE and how COVID-19 had exacerbated the problem. Workers described paying unlawful recruitment fees, listed as an indicator of forced labour by the ILO, in their countries of origin to access work through a labour agency; work which they were no longer able to undertake to pay of their debts. 54 companies were asked about their processes for recruiting workers in the region. This webinar provides details of the risks to workers, how the engagement progressed, and ways in which companies responded to the concerns.

CCLA will also speak about an ongoing opportunity to join an ongoing project called 'Find it, Fix it, Prevent it' which encourages companies to take more effective action on tackling modern slavery in their operations and supply chain.

Objective: We want to hear your thoughts on the situation and on questions like these: what issues this raises for investors? Are there opportunities? And what are companies doing now?

Register for the event here.

Our events portfolio for 2021 includes a dedicated once-a-month webinar that will address a topic under our two core knowledge sharing themes: 'The Big Picture in ESG' and 'The Sectoral Dimension'.

An informative webinar for members will be held every first Tuesday of each month, starting from the 2nd of February.
