Commenting on the FCA’s decision on mandatory reporting in the Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS), UKSIF CEO James Alexander said today (01/10/2026):

“While it’s disappointing to see a shift away from mandatory reporting under the climate standard, we hope to see companies produce high-quality reporting under the ‘comply or explain’ approach.

“This will depend on several factors, including the signals sent by the regulator’s upcoming technical guidance, which is anticipated to set further expectations for issuers’ disclosures.

“It will be vital for any explanations on departing from reporting under the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) to be sufficiently robust and clear for investors and to provide financially material information.

“Going forward, the regulator should assess the quality of disclosures by listed issuers under the UK SRS, and if needed, review its approach.”
