To successfully limit global temperature rises to below 2°C and prevent the most high-risk climate scenarios, there is an urgent need to speed up the decarbonisation of the global economy. Central to the financial system, banks can play an important role in this transition.
Our report makes the case that investors seeking to reduce exposure to climate risk at a portfolio-wide level have much to gain from strategic engagement with the banking sector. The report provides engagement guidelines for investors in their roles as shareholders, bondholders and sell-side clients.
The event will begin with a presentation of key research findings from the report and proposals for an investor-led programme of engagement with banks. We will then hear from a panel of senior representatives of the banking, investment and regulatory sectors who will provide perspectives on the role of banks in the agenda created by the Paris Agreement on climate change. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.
