    Charles Jacob, who has died aged 94, was a pioneer in the field of ethical investment.

    Having made his career as a City stockbroker, Jacob had been incapacitated for three years by a nervous breakdown when he was asked by the central finance board of the Methodist church in 1972 to become the first professional manager of its pooled investment funds, then amounting to some £4 million.
